Sustainable Thornbury has become a Transition Initiative, i.e. a Transition Town. This working group has been set up to find out the implications of becoming a Transition Initiative and to try and make this happen.
The Transition Handbook sets out how a Transition Town project might begin with 12 steps. It would set up a steering group, build a team and unleash itself. Projects would then be started by working groups.
We could follow this model, but the Transition Town working group thinks that we have already got beyond these beginnings. Even so, there are still things we have to do:-
Spread our message farther in the population of Thornbury and the surrounding area by holding a series of films and talks;
Hold a big public meeting, maybe next year, with a speaker who will attract the crowds, such as Rob Hopkins;
Network with other organisations in the area.
